How Hitchin Forum Has Made a Difference
Church Memorial, Hitchin A Watchdog
We monitor development proposals and regularly lobby the County and District Councils on the suitability of proposed developments that affect Hitchin, from large development sites to small shopfronts, from road schemes to tree planting. We use the media effectively.

A Voice for Hitchin
The Forum pursues improvements to local democracy and regularly reviews the need for a Town Council for Hitchin.

Town Promotion
In 1994 we designed the Hitchin logo.
In 1995 we produced the first 'Hitchin MiniGuide' and helped set up the Hitchin Town Centre Initiative employing the Town Centre Manager.
In 1997 we produced the 'Brief Guide to Historic Hitchin'.
In 1998 we co-ordinated the production of an information board at The Dell Open Air Theatre.
In 2000 and 2001 we helped the Town Centre Manager edit and reprint the 'Hitchin MiniGuide' and the 'Brief Guide to Historic Hitchin'.

Protecting our Environment
We have persuaded the Council for the need to protect and enhance Hitchin's green spaces, especially Butts Close, and The Dell where we have helped with practical improvements. We are playing an active part in the Campaign Against Stevenage Expansion.

Working Together
We work with Countryside Management Services, Groundwork Hertfordshire and Hitchin Rivers Society on practical projects to improve our three rivers, Hitchin's open spaces, The Dell Open Air Theatre and woodland in the town.
We work with the District Council on planning issues and improving the environment, and with the County Council on transportation issues.
We work with the Town Centre Manager on all aspects of promoting Hitchin and improving the town centre.
We work with our member organisations on matters they raise of local concern.

Informing & Advising
Our bi-monthly Newsletter, which may be controversial, is a valuable source for news and views about issues affecting the town.
